On Tuesday I ran a CV workshop to help new entrants to the media industry win more work. TRC Media, based in Glasgow, runs month-long courses helping young people get a job in media. The workshop helps creatives improve their CVs and better understand how to approach their job search.

There were eight keen media graduates, all trying to find their first jobs in the industry. The Gen Up classes are always a tough crowd, because they’re keen, smart and have such varied backgrounds!

I teach them CV writing and self-marketing skills as I don’t want to simply give them ‘answers’. These are such important skills, yet they’re rarely taught on film or media course. TRC Media’s courses are great because they focus on getting people employed, not just teaching the creative bit.

The changes I saw them make to their CVs definitely made them more effective at communicating their skills.

If you’d like to learn the skills I teach in the workshop, get my book. If you’d like me to run a workshop for you, get in touch.

CV Workshop Testimonial

“The cv workshop went really well. They are fired up to write their new fabulous CV! The workshop scored an average of 9/10 and they scored you at 8/10 (which is really good as they are a tough crowd!) . They rated an average of 40% increase in their ability after the workshop. I think you could safely quote 100% positive feedback.”

“I gave your book to one of my alumni who was really struggling to get interviews and his foot in the door. After reading your book he completely revamped his CV and was offered the next job he applied for!”
